Central FL QRP Group
November 21st, 2010 by kmack

Calling all Central Florida QRP Ops… there’s a small group of us in Orlando that like to gather together on the 2nd Saturday of the month for some breakfast, show n tell, and portable ops in a nearby park.

We just had a nice time of antenna tweaking and operating down by Lake Sylvan. There’s still room for more of you, so mark your calendars and plan to join us on the 10th of December 2010. Leave me a comment if you’d like me to send an email reminder to join us, or if you’d like to get on our list for future outings. Snowbirds are welcome too!

Hello Kelly…worked a portable QRP station in Daytona Beach this afternoon on 20 meters.
I always cherish those QRP contacts operating in the field above all the other contacts. It’s getting a little cool now but still hope to set up and operate outdoors a little more before the snow flies.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Looking for QRP info. I’m thinking that might be the way to go. Need to chew on a potential elmers brain stem…. Already started to look at MFJ QRP toys, need a hundred answers before I make the leap.

Hey fire away the questions… we’re here to help. What kind of bands and operation are you thinking about?

    Hey Kelly,

I thought 100 giga watts through a monster Yaggi was the only way to go until I recently (albeit late in life) discovered cw and qrp. I want to get a qrp station but have no idea who to go with (mfrs) what bands are best for qrp cw…etc…… . Don’t know about antennas for qrp, and basically don’t know squat about the whole package and that’s why I want to come and observe, ask questions and in general be a P.I.T.A.

I’d like to come to any meetings you have (assuming your group does have one once in a while….) and the mini field day at the lake side. I’ve been cranked up for a while now and don’t want to loose any steam. I didn’t upgrade to extra until well after the code requirement was removed and now I’m beginning to think I may have short changed myself. I really and truly believe passing over the code requirement only made a big void in the whole ham package, and a void I want to back-fill.

Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it……….

10 December we’ll meet at 0730 at the Cracker Barrel in Sanford (I-4 and SR 46 exit) and then drive over to the lake about 0900 to set up portable. So we’d love to have you join us. I’ll send another email early next week with directions.
